Summer 2009 ETC Production Fiddler on the Roof Junior Fiddler on the Roof Junior is presented through special arrangements with Music Theater International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. The videotaping or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited.
Synopsis In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. With the song “Tradition” he explains to the audience the roles each family member has in their village and culture. His daughters confirm his expression by the fear and anticipation they have about their roles as daughters in “Matchmaker”. The religious customs are wonderfully communicated through the all cast song “Sabbath Prayer”. Many other familiar songs enrich the show and demonstrate the culture, history and struggles of the villagers during this period in history, just before the Russian Revolution. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof” has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. Its universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
